On Thursday 12 workmates and I set off about 11am to attend a Dragon Boat Race Day for CRASH – a charity that assists homeless people across England.
To be fair it was probably the free day off work with the BBQ and refreshments that got me to sign up but I am pretty glad I did.
It was an awesome day out full of rosé and giggles. We had colourful team shirts (by far the best of the day), there was a magician, and clay pigeon shooting.
The shooting was hilarious. I managed to get 3 out of about 8 shots, and came third in the group of us. Jess came second, and Rosanna and Roxy got none, more practise needed from all of us I think. We definitely need to get out for a shooting day soon, maybe the next social club day at work, or Ben and I can go- though he is a shooting master and I'm not sure i want to be put to shame.
We had three heats and didn’t make it into the finals, which we were all quite happy about, out first race was at 2:45pm and third about 6pm. We were cold and a little bit drunk by the time the third race rolled around so were pretty keen to get changed and go.
Our first race was a miserable fail.. We came last by a mile, the second race I was the drummer and we came third, with only one second between us and the winners… The third was worse than the first.
We had an awesome BBQ and had a great day out.
With of course the exception of the journey home, at about 6pm we left the venue to go to a pub and have a drink before heading home.. where I was clever enough to fall down an escalator, wind myself and get some pretty awesome battle wounds..
With two swollen knees and a bruised rib I headed home defeated. On the bright side nothing is cracked, it’s all just bruising so I will be fine by next weekend, here's hoping.
We all took loads of photos, and the professional photographer caught a few good ones of us. Summer in London is turning out to be a goodie!
